CBD Oil and Neurological Disorders

ALS

While there are currently no greatly effective therapies available for ALS, it has been recognized by researchers that Cannabis appears to have activity in all of the pathophysiological areas needed to address this devastating disease.  Cannabis has strong anti-oxidative, anti-inflammatory, and neuroprotective affects. It can also adress symptoms of the disease, including reduction in pain, muscle spasms, bronchoconstriction, drooling, appetite loss, and insomnia.

Alzheimers Disease

Alzheimer's disease is the most common age-related dementia associated with impairments in learning and memory accompanied by neuroinflammation, oxidative stress and neurodegeneration.

CBD protects brain cells from death after exposure to beta-amyloid peptides, which form the plaques in the brain that are a marker for Alzheimers.  THC actually inhibits the formation of beta-amyloid peptides.

CBD is especially promising in the treatment of AD because it lacks psychoactive and cognition-impairing properties.  The use of CBD Oil in AD patients has been shown to decrease delusions, irritability, apathy, agitation, aggression, and sleep disturbances associated with this neurological disorder.

Epilepsy

Epilepsy is the most common neurological disorder in the world, affecting over 50 million people worldwide.  Although there are numerous prescription medications available to treat epilepsy, many people still suffer with seizures.

CBD has been shown to reduce seizure severity and frequency in several different types of seizure disorders.

Huntington's Disease

Research suggests that the anti-inflammatory effects of cannabinoids may delay the progression of this genetic neurodegenerative disorder.

Parkinson's Disease

Parkinson's Disease is characterized by a progressive degeneration of dopamine producing neurons in the brain.

Cannabinoids,  through their anti-inflammatory and glutamate-inhibiting properties, have been shown to be neuroprotective in areas of the brain where oxidative injury is most common in the disease.

In addition to protecting neurons, CBD has been shown to decrease the psychosis associated with Parkinsons disease without worsening of motor function and without adverse effects.
